Cat allergies? Oh yeah, those are a real pain in the behind. While I don’t personally experience cat allergies, my husband does, and I’m sure he would tell you they are miserable! Especially when we live in a house with multiple cats and work from home majority of the time. Fortunately, there are things you can do to help reduce cat allergens in your home. One of the most important things is investing in a high-quality HEPA air purifier. I own three that I have in different locations around my home, and my husband has been breathing so much easier since investing in these. The brand of air purifier that I use is Jafända, and in this article I’m going to tell you why it is the best HEPA air purifier for cat allergies!

Why HEPA Air Filters Are Neccessary for Cat Allergies
Picture this: you’re browsing the web for an air purifier that’s going to give you some much-needed relief from your awful cat allergies. You stumble upon one that has great reviews, is at a great price point, and claims to be effective in helping pet allergies. So, you add it to your cart but keep browsing. You then find another air purifier that contains a HEPA filter, and now you’re wondering what the difference is between a HEPA air purifier and a regular air purifier. Well, let me tell ya!
HEPA air purifiers contain a HEPA filter, with HEPA standing for ‘high efficiency particulate air’, according to the EPA. HEPA filters can remove at least 99.97% of mold, bacteria, pollen, dust, and airborne particles that are 0.3 microns (µm). They are much thicker than a traditional air filter which allows them to capture all the particulates they need to.
While non-HEPA air purifiers may offer some benefits in improving air quality, a HEPA filter is going to be the most effective at relieving cat allergies. According to wellnessjunction.com, pet allergens typically range in size from 2.5 to 10 microns and are easily captured by HEPA filters.
So, if you’re looking for an air purifier for your pesky cat allergies, look for one with a HEPA air filter specifically. Oh, and make sure it says ‘true HEPA’. If it doesn’t say that, they aren’t as effective and don’t meet true HEPA standards. The Jafända air purifiers I use have true HEPA air filters, and they also have many other great features that make it the best option for tackling pet allergies. Keep reading to find out why!
Features of the Jafända HEPA Air Purifier
Here are some of the many reasons I highly recommend investing in a Jafända HEPA air purifier for your kitty allergies.
Spans up to 1190 Square Feet
The best part about the Jafända HEPA air purifier is its ability to span a very large area, specifically 1190ft². A lot of air purifiers on the market have a much smaller range, so you ultimately end up having to buy more than you thought you’d need to cover your whole home.
My home is under 1,000 square feet, but it has a finished basement which basically doubles the square footage. For reference, I have three of the Jafända air purifiers in my home: one in the bedroom, one in our living room, and one for the basement. I’d really only need two (one for upstairs and one for downstairs), but my husband’s allergies are much worse in our bedroom at night, so we opted for a third purifier to place in our bedroom.
The range of the purifiers is incredibly impressive, however, even with all the walls we have separating rooms upstairs. For example, if I blow a candle out in our living room, about 30 seconds later, the air quality number on our purifier in the bedroom shoots up from the smoke. So while one purifier would theoretically filter our entire upstairs, we just like the extra filtration while we sleep!

Has a Sleep Mode
Since I mentioned that we have one of the purifiers set up in our bedroom, I’d thought it’d be great to highlight sleep mode. The Jafända purifiers come equipped with a sleep mode option that keeps noise levels to a minimum, as low as 23dB. This really comes in handy, because sometimes the filters can get loud if the air quality is particularly bad.
When the air quality levels are good, the filters do make some noise, but it’s honestly turned into background noise in my home. So much so that it sounds eerily quiet and weird when they’re off! (LOL)
Comes With a Night Light
Another cool feature of the Jafända HEPA air purifier is the night light option. The light shines from underneath the purifier with 3 light dimming settings, so it can add some nice ambiance to a room at night.
Funnily enough, my cat Hazel apparently really likes the night light, because we always find her turning it on. She will jump up on the purifier almost every night and hit the night light button with her paw. I always wake up wondering how the light got turned on!

Has Odor-Eliminating Activated Carbon
The Jafända air filters have odor-eliminating activated carbon built in, which is a really nice bonus in a multi-cat home. Other purifiers typically come with a carbon sponge filter, which has a smaller range of pollutant absorption. Activated carbon is able to absorb many more pollutants, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Automatically Adjusts Fan Speed Based on Air Quality
You won’t have to worry about adjusting fan speed if you feel like the air quality is bad in your home. The Jafända purifiers automatically adjust the speed of the fan when air quality changes.
We always joke and say that Hazel must stink because whenever she walks by a purifier, the air quality numbers shoot way up!
Reminds You When It’s Time to Change the Filter
If you’re anything like me and have a to-do list too long to keep up with, changing the filter for this purifier is one less thing you’ll have to remember to do on your own. The filter life span is 4-6 months, and a red filter light will blink when it’s time to change it out.
I’ve found that I’m able to make my filters last a little longer than the typical life span by regularly wiping them down to remove all the dust build-up.

The Final Verdict
Like I said earlier, my husband’s cat allergies have improved tenfold since we invested in these air purifiers. In fact, when our power goes off once in a while due to a storm, within minutes he can feel his allergies worsening because the filters are turned off. I have used other air purifiers in our house before this, and none of them compare. If you’re looking for something to give you some much-needed relief, the Jafända HEPA air purifier is the absolute best option for drastically improving cat allergies, in my humble opinion. My husband would agree. 🙂
FAQs
How often do you clean off the air purifier’s filters?
In my home, I find that the filters get dirty pretty fast since I have two cats. It depends on the air quality in your home, but I usually give them a good cleaning at least once a month. Sometimes I do it more often (bi-weekly) if they get particularly dirty!
Do you have to leave the air purifiers on 24/7?
The Jafända HEPA air purifiers are designed to run continuously, as this ensures pollutants, dander, dust, etc. are properly removed from your air. I leave mine on all the time. However, if you have concerns such as power costs, your cats chewing on the cords, etc., you can turn them off when not home if you prefer. For optimal air quality, leaving them on all the time is preferred.
Where do you find replacement filters for the Jafända air purifiers?
You can find replacement filters on Amazon. Make sure it’s an exact match for your model. Here’s a link to the replacment filters I buy: https://amzn.to/4mbLVx5.

Hi Maddie,
I’m glad you found this review helpful. 🙂 Air purifiers are so helpful in keeping the air we breathe clean and fresh!
Great niche content. I’ve always been skeptical of air purifiers, but as I am an animal lover, who has developed allergies throughout the years, I appreciate the Contant.
Hi Thembi,
I also used to be unsure of how helpful air purifiers would be, but the difference is SO noticeable in my husband’s allergies since we started using these! He doesn’t even need to take his allergy medication most days anymore! Unless of course he has to mow the grass because he’s also allergic to that haha
I’ve always had allergies to cats, and although I love them, I’ve kind of given up on the idea of adopting one because of it. But this product makes me want to reconsider.
Thanks for sharing!
Hi Ginger,
Thanks for reading! I totally get it. I had to really convince my husband when we got our first cat lol. His allergies were SO bad. Purifiers are incredibly helpful, as is regularly cleaning bedding, sofas, curtains, etc. There’s definitely ways to manage the allergies if you really want a kitty! 🙂
I cannot wait to try this for my bedroom. Since my service dog (and our lady pups) sleep in our room, we get a bunch of built up allergens in there. I can’t wait for this to get here this week! Thanks for suggesting it for allergies!!!
Hi Krystian,
I’m so glad to hear you got one! Pet allergies are so frustrating, especially when our fur babies sleep in our rooms with us! Let me know how you like it! 🙂
Oh, this is great for cat mommies!
I’m glad you enjoyed the article, Leir! 🙂
